Oscars 2023: Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert win the Best Director Award for Everything Everywhere All At Once


Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, collectively known as the Daniels, have won the best director award for their work in the absurdist dark comedy sci-fi Everything Everywhere All At Once. The pair had also won the award for the Best Original Screenplay for EEEAAO.

In an emotional speech while receiving the award, Daniel Kwan said, 
“The world is waking up to the fact that genius is not something you are born with but it is something that emerges from the collective. Genius is waiting to erupt; you just need to find the right person to unlock that.”

Everything Everywhere All At Once had the most number of nominations at the 95th Academy Awards with eleven nominations. The pair had earlier made the surrealist dark comedy film Swiss Army Man which starred Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe. EEEAAO had won Ke Huy Quan a Supporting Actor Award and Jamie Lee Curtis the Supporting Actress Award.

The cast of the film includes Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr. James Hong, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
