Oscars 2023: A24 becomes first studio to sweep awards in major categories

Independent film studio A24 makes history at the Oscars 2023 becoming the first studio to sweep the accolades in major categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor, with its films Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Whale

As of 2023, the company's films have received a total of 49 Academy Award nominations. In the 95th Academy Awards ceremony held on Monday, the studio claimed a total of nine Academy Awards, with Everything Everywhere All at Once winning seven, including Best Actor ( Michelle Yeoh), Best Supporting Actor (Ke Huy Quan), Best Supporting Actress (Jamie Lee Curtis), Best Original Screenplay (Daniels), Best Film Editing, Best Director (Daniels), and Best Film. The rest two awards came for The Whale, which won Best Actor (Brendan Fraser) and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The studio has also secured another history by becoming the first studio to claim all the acting category awards. 

Meanwhile, streaming service Netflix garnered six, four of them for the German film adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s 1929 novel All Quiet on the Western Front, including the Best International Feature. The rest two came from the Animated Feature (Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio) and Documentary Short Film (The Elephant Whisperers).
