We had earlier reported that two Star Wars projects, which were meant to be developed by Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkins, were later shelved at Lucasfilm. The latest news is that producer Karyn McCarthy has sued the studio over being toppled from the position of executive producer from the upcoming series The Acolyte.
According to Deadline, two weeks after boarding the project, Lucasfilm allegedly told McCarthy it wanted out of the deal without any explanation. She had apparently refused to take up the role of an executive producer on the AppleTV+ series Sugar in order to focus on the Star Wars series. McCarthy's agent said," she should have the title of the highest-paid producer at Apple if she had opted for Sugar".But by the time McCarthy was fired from Lucasfilms, the Apple offer had expired, leaving McCarthy with neither of the deals.
Per the complaint, “McCarthy is therefore forced to bring this action to hold Lucasfilm accountable for its egregious breach of their agreement, its bad faith denial of that agreement and for the statutory penalties McCarthy is entitled to its failure to pay her for her work." And she also demands to be credited as an executive producer on The Acolyte, as per her agreement with Lucasfilm.
