4K version of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to hit theatres on this date

Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee’s masterpiece Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has been restored in the 4K format. The 4K restoration of the film is making its way back into movie theatres on February 17. 

The film is based on the Chinese novel of the same name, serialized between 1941 and 1942 by Wang Dulu. And the film went on to win the Oscar for Best International Feature Film at the 73rd Academy Awards. The film is considered one of the finest wuxia films. It introduced American viewers to Academy Award-nominated actress Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once).

At the time, the film was among the few martial art movies that featured women taking up stunts and action sequences. The film was appreciated for its story, direction, cinematography, and martial arts sequences. 

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon also starred Chow Fun Fat and Zhang Ziyi. The film adaptation still holds the record as the highest-grossing foreign language film in the US, earning $128.1 million and $213.5 worldwide.
