International Emmy Awards 2023: Shefali Shah, Vir Das and Jim Sarbh receive nominations

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 51st International Emmy Awards, 2023, on Wednesday. Among 56 nominees from 20 countries across 14 categories, India has received 3 nominations. Among the nominees from India are, Vir Das, Shefali Shah and Jim Sarbh.

Jim Sarbh has been nominated for Best Performance By An Actor for his performance in the Sony LIV original series Rocket Boys. His co-contenders include Gustavo Bassani in Iosi from Argentina, Martin Freeman from the UK, and Jonas Karlsson from Sweden.

Shefali Shah's nomination comes for her stint in the second season of the Netflix show Delhi Crime. She is nominated under the Best Performance by an Actress category. She will be competing with Connie Nielsen, Billie Piper, and Karla Souza from Denmark, the UK, and Mexico, respectively.

Under the Comedy category, popular Indian comedian Vir Das has received a nomination for his comedy special, Vir Das: Landing. UK's Derry Girls, Argentina's El Encargado, and France's Le Flambeau are also a part of the race.

Taking to his official Instagram account, Jim Sarbh wrote, "I was having quite a weird few days, and then all the pieces wrapped up neatly and I heaved a huge sigh of relief, played a game of sweaty basketball, cycled home in the cold sweet rain, went in for a shower, and came out to all these messages and calls. I was an hour late to watch Dirty Harry with a neighbour, so I ran up, told him about the nom, and then we proceeded to watch the movie. ‘Do you feel lucky, punk?’ Yes. Honoured to be nominated for the International @iemmys amongst such talented artists. I loved playing Dr. Bhabha. Rocket Boys is deeply etched in my mind and heart."

Vir Das took to his official X handle to comment upon his nomination. He wrote, "Crazy! Our special #VirDasLanding got an Emmy Nomination for best comedy. Thank you to anyone who showed it love and laughter, and to Netflix for putting landing on the map! See you at the International Emmys."

Further, Shefali Shah took to her Instagram to pen a note. "OMGGGGG I still can’t believe it. Feel so so honoured to be nominated at the International Emmys alongside such esteemed artists. This one is really special and more so because it is for a character I am very very close to, Vartika Chaturvedi and for my favourite show #DelhiCrime2. This is for all of us in #DelhiCrime," she wrote on the social media platform.

In addition to these Indian nominees, Bollywood producer Ektaa Kapoor will receive the International Academy's special Emmy trophy at the awards this year. The 51st International Emmy Awards Gala is set to happen in New York City on November 20.
