Producer of Bruce Lee biopic shares an update

We had earlier reported that The Oscar-winning director Ang Lee, known for directing Life of Pi and Brokeback Mountain, is set to direct a film based on the life of Chinese-American martial arts legend Bruce Lee. While it has been a few months since the news broke, the producer of the film Lawrence Grey has shared the status of the project.

In conversation with Collider at the ongoing TIFF, Lawrence said that the writing stage is almost finished. Enquired about the film going on floors after the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, he said, "I believe that's right. We still have a little bit of work to do on it, but we've climbed some mountains, and I think we're pretty close."

The biopic will star Ang’s son Mason Lee in the lead character of Bruce Lee. Dan Futterman, who wrote Capote and Foxcatcher, is adapting the script.

Bruce Lee, who died in 1973 at the age of 32, had a brief but lasting presence in Hollywood as an actor, director and martial arts expert.
