A three-part documentary series exploring the multi-decade quest to bring justice to the families and multiple victims of the mysterious Gilgo Beach serial killer, is in the making at Netflix. The series is directed by executive produced by Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Liz Garbus.

The case had been running for 13 years until July 2023 when the suspect was held.

Hailing from Story Syndicate, the synopsis reads, “The series will foreground the stories of the victims’ lives, with exclusive access to their families, and examine the history of the police investigation and recent breakthroughs that led to the identification of Rex Heuermann, who had been hiding in suburban Long Island in plain sight.”

Liz Garbus, Dan Cogan, Jon Bardin, Mala Chapple, Anne Carey will serve as executive producers. The show is backed by Elizabeth Wolff and Kate Barry.

The Gilgo Beach serial killings took place between 1996 and 2011 in New York's Long Island. The remains of 11 people were found in Gilgo Beach. In July 2023, Rex Heuermann was arrested.
