Bridgerton actor Ruby Barker slams Netflix, Shondaland for not supporting during her psychotic breaks

Actor Ruby Barker who played the role of Marina in Netflix's Bridgerton series, has recently called out Netflix and Shondaland for not supporting her during the two psychotic breakdowns she had during the success of the show.

Ruby was a prominent character in the first season and occured partly as a guest in the sophomore installment. Her Marina, was a Featherington cousin who was considered as an outcast after she got pregnant out of wedlock.

The actor said that she experienced her first breakdown in 2019 after completing shooting for Bridgerton's first season, while she had her second in 2022.

"Not a single person from Netflix, not a single person from Shondaland, since I have had two psychotic breaks from that show, have even contacted me or even emailed me to ask me if I’m okay or if I would benefit from any sort of aftercare or support," the actor was quoted as saying to Oxford University’s LOAF Podcast.

The actor further said that her mental health declined while shooting for Bridgerton and her character being isolated impacted her further.  "During filming, I was deteriorating. “It was a really tormenting place for me to be because my character was very alienated, very ostracized, on her own under these horrible circumstances.”

Ruby also mentioned how despite the hard time, she had to promote the show. “It’s almost like I had this metaphorical invisible gun to my head to sell this show because this show is bubbly and fun. I don’t want to come out and poo poo on that because then I’ll never work again.”

Netflix and Bridgerton makers are yet to respond on the allegations.
