
Friends fans, and Hollywood film fraternity are mourning the demise of actor Matthew Perry, who is better known as Chandler Bing from the popular American sitcom. Aged 54, the actor was reportedly found drowned in a jacuzzi in his home in Los Angeles. Official confirmation is yet to be made.
Perry, born on August 19, 1969, in Williamstown, Massachusetts, was raised in Ottawa, Canada. Interestingly, he attended elementary school in the country, with now Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Perry's mother, Suzanna Morrison worked for Trudeau's father, the then Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau as a journalist and press secretary. His biological father, John Bennett Perry, was an actor and model. In 1979, a young Matthew starred in one of the episodes of his father's cop show 24-Robert.
Matthew started his film career with A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon in 1988. He went on to star in many films like She's Out of Control and Getting In and in television shows like, Boys Will be Boys and Sydney, among others, until he landed his role as Chandler Bing in Friends.
Despite his success with Friends, from 1994-2004, Matthew Perry suffered from addiction to Alcohol and Vicodin and was taking treatment for the same from 1997 to 2001. He also revealed that he had a substance abuse problem after Vicodin was prescribed to him after a Jet Ski accident in 1997. In fact, the actor has also credited his Friends co-stars for being patient with him in his battle against addiction.
After Friends ended in 2004, Matthew was seen in smaller roles in Television series. He was a series regular in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (2006-2007), Mr. Sunshine (2011), and Go On (2012-2013), among other shows. Some of Perry's film credits include Almost Heroes (1998), The Kid (2000), and The Whole Ten Yards (2004).
His most recent work is Friends: The Reunion, in which he starred as himself.
