Napoleon to be contested in these categories for the Oscars

Napoleon, the much-awaited epic historical drama starring  Joaquin Phoenix as the eponymous French emperor, is gearing up for a release on November 22. Although a month is left for the Ridley Scott directorial venture to see the light of day, the Oscar categories for which the film will be submitted have now been learned.

According to Variety, Ridley Scott will compete for the Best Director category, Joaquin Phoenix will be running for the Best Actor category, while Vanessa Kirby, who essays Josephine, Napoleon's wife, will vie for supporting actress. Tahar Rahim and Rupert Everett will be submitted for Best Supporting Actors. The film will also be submitted in other categories, including cinematography, film editing, production design, makeup and hairstyling, sound, visual effects and original score. 

Napoleon is penned by David Scarpa, Napoleon is backed by Apple TV in association with Sony Pictures Entertainment.

The film's official logline reads: Napoleon is an original and personal look at Napoleon's origins and his swift, ruthless climb to the emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine. The film captures Napoleon's famous battles, relentless ambition, and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.
