Destin Daniel Cretton departs from directing Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

Shang Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton, who was set to direct the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, has exited as director. 

While the director has now departed from the project, the project itself has been hanging in there ever since Jonathan Majors was convicted for alleged domestic abuse. Majors who played multiple versions of the supervillain Kang, in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Loki, was to be the main lead of the film. However, he is currently awaiting trial for the domestic abuse charges. 

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was set to hit theatres on May 1, 2026, to be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. They were to serve as films such as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: End Game, which were both shot back-to-back by the Russo Brothers. However, a director for Secret Wars is also yet to be announced. 

While Cretton is stepping away from this film, he will still be working on Marvel's Shang Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings sequel. He is also working on the  Disney+ series Wonder Man for Marvel Studios. The filming of the series will resume soon.
