Indira Varma, known for her performance in Game Of Thrones has joined the cast of the new series of Doctor Who, the BBC show which first premiered in 1963.

As per reports, Varma is set to be seen as the Duchess in a mysterious new role. Previously, she was a part of the Doctor Who universe, as she played the role of Suzie Costello in the spin-off series Torchwood directed by Russell T Davis.

A 1963 television series, Doctor Who chronicles the exploits of The Doctor, a Time Lord who appears in the form of a human. The Tardis, a time-travelling spaceship used by the Doctor, traverses the cosmos.

The 13th Doctor in the series, Jodie Whittaker, underwent regeneration last year, unveiling David Tennant, who was previously the 10th doctor, as the 14th Doctor. In November, the show will return with Tennant as the Doctor and three special episodes to mark the 60th anniversary of the programme.

After David Tennant, Ncuti Gatwa, the star of Sex Education, will play the next Doctor, who will be in charge of the Tardis. Over the holiday season, Gatwa's debut episode as the 15th Doctor will premiere.

Jinkx Monsoon and Jonathan Groff have also been added to the cast of Doctor Who, apart from Indira Varma.
