Director Todd Haynes, who is currently basking in the broad reception of his recent film, May December, at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, has hinted that Oscar-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix will headline his next project.
In an interview with the French cultural magazine Les Inrockuptibles, Carol Helmer said, "There's another movie I want to make in early 2024. It's a project that Joaquin Phoenix brought to me, and it's set in the 1930s. A love story between two men, based on a screenplay original very daring. This is, I believe, his first gay role. I am very excited about this project!"
While presenting May December at Cannes, Todd Haynes had already confirmed that his next be a biopic of singer Peggy Lee, titled, Fever, with Michelle Williams in the lead role.
May December stars Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, and Charles Melton in the prominent roles. The film follows an actress (Natalie Portman) who travels to study the life of a real-life woman (Julianne Moore) she is set to play in a film.
Meanwhile, Joaquin Phoenix was last seen in Ari Aster's Beau Is Afraid. The actor has a slew of films lined up, including Napoleon and Joker: Folie à Deux.
