Production of The Penguin halted due to Hollywood writers' strike

The making of Warner Brothers Discovery's DC series The Penguin was halted owing to the strike by Writers Guild of America. The series will serve as a sequel to film The Batman which released last year.

The Penguin will consist of eight episodes. The series will focus on the Gotham City gangster Oswald Cobblepot from The Batman, played by Colin Farrell.

The spin-off series features an ensemble cast including Cristin Milioti, Michael Zegen, Clancy Brown, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Carmen Ejogo, François Chau and David H. Holmes.

Lauren LeFranc is the executive producer and show runner of the series, with The Batman writer-director Matt Reeves executive producing through his production company 6th & Idaho. The first three episodes will be directed by Craig Zobel, who also serves as the series' executive producer.

The Writer's Guild of America (WGA) are on a strike following several rounds of discussion with Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers resulted in studios and producers refusing to negotiate some of the WGA proposals that involved improving the working conditions of writers.

While production for shows like House of the Dragon and Welcome to Derry are going on, several other Hollywood projects are stalled due to strike.
