Idris Elba to direct and star in action thriller Infernus

Actor Idris Elba will feature and direct the upcoming action thriller Infernus. In addition to this, he will also back the film along with Millennium Media.

In the film, Idris will play the role of UN human rights activist tasked with the mission to save refugees being illegally detained at a US prison. While he has to battle a few enemies in the process, he is also in-charge of the refugees' safety.

The film is based on a story written by Tom Boyle with screenplay penned by Robert Mark Kamen. Infernus will go on floors in October in London. The film will be primarily be shot in London with a few portions filmed in Ghana's TD Akuna Studios, a venture of Idris to build the regional industry. The upcoming film will mark the actor's second directorial venture after the 2018 Yardie.

Infernus is a gripping thriller with a relevant and intimate human story at its core. Thanks to the brilliant writing of Robert and Tom, we have some exceptional characters. I’m really looking forward to this opportunity both in front and behind the camera, filming across Europe, as well as bringing our production to Africa, which has an emerging film community that we are proud to be supporting," he was quoted as saying by a Deadline report.
