Production for Welcome to Derry begins

Welcome to Derry, the upcoming prequel series of the It horror film franchise, has begun production, director Andy Muschietti revealed on social media while sharing a photo from the sets.  The photo reveals Derry police chief Clint Bowers who appeared in the prequel.

It is to be noted that Welcome to Derry is one among the few projects that is in production currently, in view of the writers' strike happening in Hollywood.

The series is set to stream on the newly rebranded streaming platform Max sometime in 2024. Welcome to Derry will feature Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, James Remar, Chris Chalk, Madeleine Stowe and Stephen Rider among others.

While not much about the plot is revealed or the characters they will be playing, the prequel series will be set within the It universe. Derry, Maine is the geographical premise where It takes place and is the home of the antagonist Pennywise the Clown. However, the series in all probabilities might not feature Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise.

Based on the horror novel by Stephan King, Andy also helmed the big-screen adaptations It and It: Chapter Two. Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs are also on board for the project.
