Netflix ropes in Dune writer for Gears of War live-action adaptation

Netflix has roped in Jon Spaihts, the writer behind the two parts of Dune, to write the streaming platform's upcoming live action film Gears of War, which is based on hit video game series.

The upcoming project is produced in association with The Coalition. Games of War made its debut on Xboc in 2006 and went on to sell 40 million copies across its six parts. Meanwhile on the other hand, Jon is known for his work in Doctor Strange, The Darkest Hour. He was nominated for Oscar for Dune. He has also co-written its upcoming second part which will release on November 3.

Gears of War is one of the all-time great action games, with vivid characters, a beautifully designed world, and a combat system that drives home the lethality of war and the importance of standing by your squadmates. It wants to be cinema, and I’m thrilled to have the chance to help that happen," said Jon to Variety.

Gears of War game focuses on a dysfunctional society which is facing threat of a collapse because of Locust alien race. While a fire team is now entrusted with the job to fight for safety, the game aims at regaining humanity in its last stand.
