Daniel Bruhl to play designer Karl Lagerfield in Disney+ original series

Actor Daniel Brühl, who is riding high on the success of All Quiet on the Western Front, will essay the role of late fashion designer Karl Lagerfield in the upcoming Disney+ original series Kaiser Karl. It will be backed by Gaumont and the shooting is currently underway in France, Monaco and Italy.

The series will consist of six parts and will showcase the rise of the fashion designer during the 1970s of the Parisian high fashion and how eventually he became the head for known brands like Chanel, Fendi and his own label. Besides this, the series will also highlight his romance with Jacques de Bascher and Karl's competition with Yves Saint Laurent’s partner Pierre Berge.

Kaiser Karl will be helmed by two filmmakers, Jérôme Salle and Audrey Estrougo. The former, known for his works like The Odyssey, Zulu, Totems, will direct episodes 1, 2, and 6. Others part of the series include Jacques de Bascher as Yves Saint Laurent, Alex Lutz as Pierre Bergé, and Agnès Jaoui as founder of the Chloé brand.

It is to be noted that it is the first time a series is being made on Karl. Isaure Pisani-Ferry is the head writer attached to Kaiser Karl and Dominique Baumard, Jennifer Have and Nathalie Hertzberg are the writers. Isaure is also the creator of the series.

The technical team attached to the project include cinematographers Melodie Preel and Mahdi Lepart, costume designer Pascaline Chavanne, production designer Jean Rabasse. Evgueni and Sacha Galperine will score the music.
