A new tense thriller series based on Alex Dahl's novel Playdate has been greenlit by Disney+. Tanya Seghatchian, John Woodward and Nicola Shindler, known for producing The Power of the Dog and It’s a Sin, are joining hands to produce this upcoming series, under the Brightstar and Quay Street Productions banner.
Playdate will revolve around Elisa, who sends her nine-year-old daughter to a playdate with her new best friend. On arriving to pick her up, Elisa discovers that the friend's house was merely a holiday rental and that her daughter has disappeared. Elisa and her husband Fred embark upon a manhunt across Europe even as they find themselves the object of police scrutiny.
Playdate is adapted from American/Norwegian author Dahl’s fourth novel. The five-part series is all set to begin production over the summer in UK and France. Playdate will be directed by Palme d’Or nominee Eva Husson, from a script from Catherine Moulton. There is no news on casting yet.
