Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will not have a release in the United Arab Emirates on the grounds of not aligning with the country's censorship requirements.
As per a Variety report, the film is barred from releasing because of a scene that features a poster with transgender flag in the background and reads "Protect Trans Lives". Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was supposed to release on June 22.
It is to be noted that the country has had a history of barring films that contains LGBTQ content. In another instance, UAE had banned Pixar's Lightyear due to same-sex kiss scene. There also has been a conversation surrounding Gwen Stacy character with some interoperating her as trans-person character. The scene also features colours of transgender representation, however the makers have not explicitly have not identified the character as one.
