David Fincher confirms there won't be third season for Mindhunter

Veteran director David Fincher, who is credited as the executive producer of the Netflix series Mindhunter, has confirmed that the series will not get a third season.

In an interview with Le Journal Du Dimanche, the auteur said, "I am very proud of the first two seasons. But it's a particularly expensive series and, in the eyes of Netflix, we haven't attracted a large enough audience to justify such an investment. I don't blame them. They took risks to launch the series, gave me the means to make my dream film Mank, and allowed me to venture down new paths with The Killer."

Mindhunter is a psychological crime thriller series created by Joe Penhall. It is based on the 1995 true-crime book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit, written by John E Douglas and Mark Olshaker.

The first season of ten episodes premiered on Netflix on October 13, 2017. The second season released on August 16, 2019. In January 2020, Netflix announced that the chance for a third season was on indefinite hold as Fincher wanted to pursue other projects.
