Christopher Landon is no longer attached to Scream 7

Earlier, we had reported that Christopher Landon, who is best known for helming the Happy Death Day series and Freaky, would helm the seventh installment of Scream. It has now been learned that he has exited from the project. The filmmaker penned a note on his social media handle announcing his resignation from the film.

I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited Scream 7 weeks ago. This will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on,” he wrote on his X handle.

He continued, “I have nothing more to add to the conversation other than I hope Wes’ legacy thrives and lifts above the din of a divided world. What he and Kevin created is something amazing and I was honored to have even the briefest moment basking in their glow.”

It is worth mentioning that last month, Spyglass fired actor Melissa Barrera from Scream 7  over social media posts it characterized as antisemitic; later it was also revealed that Jenna Ortega, who plays a prominent role in the franchise, would not be returning.

It is to be noted that Christopher takes over the mantle from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who are known as Radio Silence and directed the last two instalments of Scream.
