Filmmaker Eli Roth is developing a sequel to his holiday-themed slasher film Thanksgiving, which will be released theatrically in 2025.

Roth, director of scary movies such as Cabin FeverHostelThe Green Inferno and Knock Knock, shared the news in an Instagram post on Friday.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first Thanksgiving began life as a fake trailer in Robert Rodriguez’s and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse, released in 2007.

“We thought, ‘All right, we’re done. We made the best parts [in the fake trailer]. Now we don’t even have to make the movie,'” Roth previously told The Hollywood Reporter. “But for years, people just kept posting that trailer and badgering me and guilt tripping me, and it worked. Shaming the director worked in this case.”

Thanksgiving, opened theatrically in November and grossed $30 million globally. Roth wrote the screenplay along with Jeff Rendell.

The film, featuring Patrick Dempsey and TikTok star Addison Rae, centers around a mysterious, axe-wielding killer who wreaks havoc on a small town after a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy.
