Denis Villenueve expresses his "dream" to make third part of Dune

While the makers of Dune 2 have postponed the film’s release date to March 2024, the director of the film, Denis Villenueve, has expressed his wish to make third installment of the franchise and would be his dream to make a trilogy.

The Dune film franchise is based on Frank Herbert’s book series. The film stars Timothee Chalamet as the protagonist who has to travel to the dangerous planet Arrakis to make sure his family and people sustain in the future.

Denis said he wants to explore the world of Arrakis in a third film based on Dune Messiah, which is the second in the novel series consisting of six parts. "If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream. Dune Messiah was written in reaction to the fact that people perceived Paul Atreides as a hero, which is not what (Herbert) wanted to do. My adaptation (of Dune) is closer to his idea that it's actually a warning... After that the books become more' esoteric," the director said to Empire. While a third part is yet to be confirmed, Denis also said he would like to bid farewell for the series after it.

Warner Bros along with Legendary Entertainment are producing Dune 2. The sequel also stars Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, among others.
