We know that actor Paul Mescal will be playing the lead role in the upcoming sequel to the highly acclaimed 2000 film Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott. Due to the immense success of the original film and the buzz surrounding the sequel, Paul has shared bits and pieces of information about the upcoming film.

In an earlier conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, he revealed he had not done any audition for the part. He met with director Ridley Scott, and after a brief discussion about the storyline, he got the script, " Discussed the parameters of the story. Then I was given a script."

In another interview with Esquire, he said he couldn't give much information about the project. "I can't get into that! I can't tell you how stressed I am talking about that film in particular because it's definitely the biggest one I've done. I feel really excited, but, like, it's difficult to get away from the legacy of the film a bit."

"I think it's really well written, and it pays homage to the first one, but it's very much something that I think I can step into and make comfortably my own", he added.

In Gladiator 2, Mescal takes on the lead role of adult Lucius, depicted in the original as the young nephew of Commodus, the Roman Emperor played by Joaquin Phoenix.

Currently, the filming for the film has been halted due to the strikes, though about half of the filming has already been completed by Ridley Scott.
