Netflix recently released the first-look teaser for their upcoming biographical drama titled Maestro. Based on accomplished music conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein, the film is directed by Bradley Cooper, who also stars as Bernstein in the film. Following the teaser’s release, there was some backlash over Cooper’s prosthetic makeup, pointing at how the exaggerated nose makeup was the latest example of Hollywood’s anti-semetic Jewish stereotype.

Meanwhile, Leonard Bernstein’s children Jamie, Alexander, and Nina Bernstein, took to Twitter to defend Bradley Cooper. In a statement released on Twitter, the Bernstein siblings revealed how they worked along with Cooper for months. The statement also reads, “It breaks our hearts to see any misrepresentations or misunderstandings of his efforts,” they said of Cooper. “It happens to be true that Leonard Bernstein had a nice, big nose. Bradley chose to use makeup to amplify his resemblance, and we’re perfectly fine with that. We’re also certain that our dad would have been fine with it as well.”

The film is currently scheduled to premiere on Netflix on December 20.
