Global entertainment brands, Illumination, Universal Pictures and Nintendo jointly produced Super Mario Bros.Movie, which is currently running in theatres, has exceeded all expectations and has scored the biggest box office opening ever for an animated film. Now the song, Peaches from the film, will be heading as the first contender for Best Original Song in the forthcoming 96th Academy Awards. 

Universal Pictures confirmed to Variety that the song would be eligible to submit for best original song consideration at the Oscars. 

The song, which is sung by Jack Black as the antagonist, Bowser, showcases his love towards the Mushroom Kingdom Princess Peach, played by Anya Taylor Joy. The song is co-written by Black, the film’s directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, as well as Eric Osmond and John Spiker.

The film, which is based on the video game franchise Mario, features Chris Pratt as Mario. The rest of the cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day,  Keegan-Michael Key,  Seth Rogen,  Fred Armisen, Kevin Michael Richardson and Sebastian Maniscalco.
