The short films and animation committee at The Motion Pictures Academy has reviewed the films Marcel the Shell With Shoes On and Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood and announced that both the films qualify to be contenders under the animated feature film category for the 95th Academy Awards.
Marcel the Shell With Shoes On is a stop-motion animated film set in a real-life environment and follows the story of Marvel as he goes in search of his family. The film is directed by Dean Fleischer-Camp and based on a short story written by the director along with Jenny Slate who also voices Marcel the shell.
Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood is written and directed by multiple Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Richard Linklater. The coming-of-age drama is set during the years leading up to the Apollo 11 launch mission. The cast of the film includes Glen Powell, Jack Black, Zachary Levi, and Josh Wiggins. Earlier, both films were questioned about their use of animation techniques but now after careful consideration, the academy has deemed the films worthy of being qualified under the animated feature film category.
Both the films released in the first half of 2022 and received overwhelmingly positive response. It is also worth noting that comedian/talk show host Jimmy Kimmel was recently confirmed to host the 95th Academy Awards.
