
A24, known for Indie horror films Hereditary and Midsommar, has landed the rights for an erotic psychological thriller titled Instinct. The film is directed by Bodies Bodies Bodies director Halina Rejin. Instinct stars Marwan Kenzari alongside Carice van Houten, who is most famous for playing Melisandre in the hit HBO show Game of Thrones.
The film also has Marie-Mae van Zuilen, Pieter Embrechts, Ariane Schluter, Betty Schuurman, Abdelkarim El-Baz, Tamar van den Dop, and Robert de Hoog. Esther Gerritsen has written the screenplay for the film based on an idea given by the director.
The film recently opened at the Toronto International Film, it previously had its premiere in 2019 at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. Carice van Houten plays Nicoline, a criminal psychologist who begins working at a prison. She meets an inmate named Idris (Marwan Kenzari) who is awaiting release after serving five years for sex offender charges. Idris eventually develops passionate feelings for Nicoline.
Director Rejin produced the film along with her lead actor Van Houten under her banner Man Up. The makers of the film are yet to announce a theatrical release date for the film.
