Creator Tony Gilroy says Andor season 2 will take two years to hit screens

The second season of the critically acclaimed Star Wars spinoff series Andor has officially started filming and will reportedly film all the way towards the end of summer next year. The series, created by Tony Gilroy and starring Diego Luna in the lead, follows the adventures of the rebel Cassian Andor as he fights against the galactic empire.

The character around which the series revolves around was first introduced in the prequel film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016, the series follows Cassian before the events of the film. Since the first season took three to years to wrap up its production, creator Gilroy says that we might not see the second season hit the screens at least for the next two years.

Tony Gilroy explained the reason for the unusually long gap between seasons in an interview that reads, “The only place you can accelerate the processes is in the post, and the only way you can accelerate in post is with money, and money is tight. So, I don't really know, there would have to be some serious motivation next May or June or something. Someone would have to say, "Wow, we really need this, and we're willing to pay X." Rogue One proved, if you throw money at it, you can post really, really fast. It's just very, very, very expensive.
