Tony Gilroy reveals plans for Mon Mothma in Andor season 2

Tony Gilroy, who created the Star Wars series Andor, has revealed his plans for the second season of the show. In a recent interview, he revealed that there are some ‘heavy things’ to come for senator Mon Mothma (played by Genevieve O'Reilly). Talking about the character, he said, “ she has a more rigorous and dangerous and more tension-making path through the show than any other character.”

The writer/director then went on to heap praises on O’Reilly’s performance in the series. He said, “I was unaware of how brilliant an actress Genevieve O'Reilly is. I knew she was good, but we got in there and started messing around, and like, oh my gosh, she's world-class. Absolutely state of the art and she can do anything."

Gilroy goes on to add that Mon Mothma, a senator who is secretly aiding the rebellion, will be under more pressure in the oncoming season. He said, “I would argue, particularly because we're doing season 2 stuff now… she has to do all the things that everybody else does, but she has to do it under glass. She's under observation all the time. There are some really heavy things coming up… I think her path is very, very tough”

Andor follows Cassian Andor, a rebel spy who is working for the rebel alliance to bring down the galactic empire. The character, played by Diego Luna, was first introduced in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which was released in 2016.
