Johnny Depp Vs Amber Heard: Depp wins defamation case

Jurors have notified the judge that they have reached a verdict in the lawsuit between Hollywood actors Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard. According to the evidence in hand, they have found out that Heard defamed Depp when she wrote a 2018 Washington Post opinion piece claiming that she was subjected to domestic violence by Depp. The Pirates of the Caribbean star sued Heard in Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia for $50 million over the 2018 article which resulted in Heard countersuing Depp for $100 million, claiming Depp's attorney defamed her by calling her abuse allegations a hoax.

The jury awarded Depp, who has won the defamation case, $15 million in damages - $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. The jury also awarded Heard $2 million in compensatory damages which will still leave Depp with $13 million.

The seven-person jury, that assembled at the courthouse in Fairfax County, Va., has concluded a dramatic trial which began six weeks ago. Over the days, more than 60 witnesses, including the couple’s friends, relatives, employees, agents, doctors and therapists were heard by the jurors.

Depp, who wasn't present at the court, reportedly kept track of the progress from the UK where he performed onstage with musician Jeff Beck over the weekend.
