San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) is coming back this July after nearly two years of cancellation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The highly anticipated event, known for releasing trailers, promotional materials, and release updates is the biggest pop culture event of the year. Many studios book a panel at the SDCC to hype up fans of their franchise. Comic-Con 2022 is set to take place between 21 July - 24 July.
Marvel
Ever since the MCU started, Marvel typically makes the biggest splash in SDCC. The Marvel panel is loaded with announcements and trailers for both their theatrical and television releases this week. Fans are expecting announcements and possibly even trailers for Marvel’s upcoming big-name sequels like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Apart from their sequels, Marvel is also bringing their upcoming original film The Marvels to their panel. The ensemble superhero film brings together characters like Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Ms. Marvel. Marvel fans are also expecting a trailer for season 2 of the Disney+ TV show What if…?
DC
Fans are expecting to see the first glimpse into the sequel for 2018's Aquaman, titled Aquaman and the lost kingdom. The cast of Shazam: Fury of the gods is also expected to arrive on the scene with footage from the film. The Flash, which stumbled its way through an extensively troubled production, was previously expected to release a full-length trailer but following the controversy around Ezra Miller, Flash’s SDCC appearance is currently uncertain.
National Treasure: Edge of History
National Treasure: Edge of History is a television spin-off of Nicholas Cage’s treasure-hunt classic. The series will follow the adventures of Justin Bartha’s character named Riley Poole who appears in both the National Treasure films. The show is being developed for Disney+ and is set to release on July 21.
House of The Dragon
The prequel series to the Game of Thrones series is gearing up for its first-ever Comic-Con appearance. The cast and crew are expected to appear on the panel to interact with their fans. The show is set to premiere on 21 August 2022.
The Wheel of Time: Origins
The Wheel of Time: Origins is an animated show that goes deep into the world of The Wheel of Time, a live-action show based on a book series of the same name. The first season of the show premiered on Amazon Prime last year. Fans can expect news about season 2 at Comic-Con.
The Lord of The Rings: The Rings Of Power
Amazon’s prequel series to the Lord of The Rings franchise is coming to Comic-Con to introduce its cast and crew. New footage and promotional images are to be expected. The show is reportedly the costliest tv series to date with a $ 50 million budget for each episode.
The Sandman
Netflix is bringing its adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s critically acclaimed graphic novel Sandman to the panel. Writer of The Dark Knight David S Goyer is executive producing the show along with Allen Heinberg and Neil Gaiman. The fantasy series is streaming on Netflix from the 5th of August.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves
The feature-length adaptation of the tabletop role-playing game is being directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. The fantasy adventure film has a release date of 3 March 2023 and stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Hugh Grant among others. The makers of the film along with the cast and crew are scheduled to appear at Comic-Con to release footage and other promotional material.
