HBO renews House of the Dragon for season 2

House of the Dragon, which premiered its first episode on 21 August, was renewed for a second season at HBO. The Game of Thrones prequel series is set a hundred and twenty-seven years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. The show follows the drama that unfolds and threatens to rip apart the kingdom when members of the Targaryen family fight each other for the iron throne. The show is significant for the direct involvement of author George R R Martin, who later became vocal about his discontent with GOT’s series finale.

Following the series premiere, it was noted that the first episode garnered record-breaking viewership for HBO. The decision to renew it for another season might be a part of the healthy amount of positive reactions to the first episode. Miguel Sapochnik, who directed several episodes of Game of Thrones, including the Emmy Award-winning Battle of the Bastards, is back to direct the prequel series. Ryan J Condal and George R R Martin are also on board as the showrunners.

The ensemble cast includes Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, and Paddy Considine.
