Nic Pizzolatto, the creator of True Detective, is reportedly developing a western series. The writer/director announced on his Instagram profile that he has written the series outline along with the first two episodes. While talking about the series, he says, “The most populist/funniest thing I’ve ever written. And most romantic.” The series is currently titled The Grass Rifles and will be pitched to interested networks once the script is fleshed out.

Pizzolatto is also reported to have been developing two other projects. One is an original film titled Easy Waltz, about the life of a Las Vegas singer, and another is a film adaptation of the novel The Frenchman, an international spy-thriller based on the real-life experiences of a French intelligence officer, written by Jack Beaumont.

Vince Vaughn, who played one of the lead roles alongside Colin Farell in True Detective season 2, will collaborate again with Nic Pizzolatto in Easy Waltz. He will reportedly play the role of a Las Vegas singer.

In the Instagram post, the writer/director added a cautiously optimistic caption that said, “Since all these projects require millions of dollars, and the market being what it is, I can't guarantee you'll actually get to watch all (or any) of them, but the wheels are in motion, all of which is just to assure the fans on here that I haven't retired and am creating robustly (just not super-dark stories about murder and retribution).
