The first look image of Johnny Depp as King Louis XV in Jeanne Du Barry has been released online. The film is directed by french director Maiwenn, who is also known for acting in films like Our lies and Tralala. The director is also confirmed to play Jeanne Du Barry in the film alongside Johnny Depp. Her directing credit involves films like DNA which was released in 2020 and Our King which was released in 2015.
The film is reportedly based on the real-life personality Jeanne du Barry, who was known to be the mistress of Louis XV. She was the last royal mistress to king Louis XV at the Court of Versaille. The film announcement came after Johnny Depp’s widely publicised court trial with his ex-wife Amber Heard.
Following the alleged assault and harassment charges mounted against Depp by Amber Heard, the actor was subsequently blacklisted from Hollywood for three years. After the court trial went in favour of Johnny Depp and following widespread support for Depp, he is now starting to get roles in films.
Set in 1743, the period drama is currently under production. The production house Why Not will announce the release date plans for the film shortly after the shooting wraps up.
