Leonardo DiCaprio is in the final round of talks to star as controversial cult leader Jim Jones in an upcoming adaptation of his life written by Scott Rosenberg.

The infamous religious leader, who was known as the leader of the Peoples Temple religious group, orchestrated the November 1978 mass suicide at his Jonestown settlement that took more than 900 lives.

Along with his inner circle, Jones was behind the massacre at his jungle commune based in Guyana, where his followers were directed to drink cyanide-adulterated punch.

If everything falls in place, the feature will be backed by MGM and DiCaprio-Jennifer Davisson's Appian Way banner. Apart from writing the film, Rosenberg will also serve as the executive producer of this project.

Meanwhile, DiCaprio also has the release of his Netflix film, Don't Look Up, directed by Adam McKay, and Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon in different stages of production.
