How I Met Your Father, the much-anticipated spinoff of How I Met Your Mother, will premiere on Hulu on January 18, 2022.

The news was announced by the streaming platform through a video that features the new cast. The show stars Hilary Duff, Christopher Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, Suraj Sharma, Kim Cattrall, Daniel Augustin, Ashley Reyes, and Josh Peck.

Set in the near future, How I Met Your Father will have Sophie (Duff) telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends -  Jesse (Lowell), Valentina (Raisa), Charlie (Ainsley), Ellen (Tran), and Sid (Sharma) - are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

This Is Us co-showrunners and Love, Victor co-creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger have written the series, apart from executive producing. How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are also on board as executive producers. Duff is also producing the series, with Adam Londy serving as co-executive producer. 20th Television, the producer of the original, is also producing the new series.

How I Met Your Mother aired on CBS for a historic nine seasons, with over 200 episodes, from 2005-2014. The series starred Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, and Alyson Hannigan. Bob Saget provided the voice of the narrator, an older version of Radnor’s character Ted Mosby.
