Vikram to return to Malayalam cinema

If reports are to be believed, Vikram, who was last seen in Malayalam cinema in Indriyam (2000), will be returning to the industry after a gap of 18 years. The Irumugan actor will be teaming up with director Anwar Rasheed for a period epic based on the revolt against the British that took place in the Malabar region in 1921. Word has it that Vikram will be essaying the role of Variankunnath Kunjahammad Haji, a freedom fighter.

Anwar Rasheed is known for delivering two of the biggest hits in Malayalam cinema in recent times -- Rajamanikyam and Ustad Hotel. He is currently busy with his latest film, Trance, which stars Fahadh Faasil in the lead.

Interestingly, IV Sasi's 1921 (1988), starring Mammootty, was also set against the backdrop of the Malabar rebellion.
