Netflix announces Baahubali prequel series

After the success of its first India original series, Sacred Games, based on Vikram Chandra's book, Netflix is now concentrating on more such original series based in the country. The latest addition to that list is the prequel to the superhit Baahubali franchise, which is set to made in the form of a web series. It will be an adaptation of the novel, The Rise of Sivagami, and filmmakers Deva Katta and Praveen Sataru will be teaming up with the film's producers Arka Media Works and Netflix to direct this venture.

In a statement, Rajamouli said, "The world of Baahubali is extensive and immersive with strong characters and larger-than-life kingdoms. The films Baahubali -The Beginning and The Conclusion are from one story set in this world and more dramatic stories were broadly conceived while building the universe. With Netflix as our partner, we have the opportunity to create a rich and riveting series and take this quintessential Indian epic to the world, which is very gratifying to me as a story-teller."

The first season of this series will have nine episodes and it will focus on the story of Mahishmati's queen, Sivagami. The cast and release dates of the series are yet to be announced.
