Aarya trailer out: Sushmita Sen makes her comeback in intense crime drama

The trailer for Sushmita Sen’s comeback show, Aarya, is out. Produced by Ram Madhvani Films, the nine-part series will stream on Disney+ Hotstar from June 19. The crime drama series is co-directed by Ram Madhvani, Sandeep Modi and Vinod Rawat.

The story revolves around Aarya, played by Sushmita. When her husband (Chandrachur Singh), a doctor involved in the illegal drug trade, is shot, Aarya’s life is turned upside down. She teams up with an opium lord (Namit Das) and goes to extreme lengths to shield her family. The supporting cast includes Sikandar Kher, Jayant Kripalani, Sohaila Kapoor, Sugandha Garg, Maya Sareen, Vishwajeet Pradhan and Manish Chaudhary.

“Aarya is defined by her courage,” Sushmita said in an online press conference for the launch. “It’s the courage of a human being, the strength to withstand tremendous pressure and go all the way.”

Speaking about returning to screen after 10 years, Sushmita said, “In all these years, I’ve never felt so driven and inspired. It’s a manifestation of years of learning and making mistakes. The journey of Aarya is real. There was no action or cut on set — we had to really be the characters.”

Ram Madhvani’s Neerja won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film In Hindi in 2017. The director said he has been working on Aarya for the last nine years. “The world of Aarya is a complex web of emotions, twisted family bonds and betrayal,” Ram said. “It’s a bold and strong narrative that takes it beyond the spectrum of a crime-drama.”

On making his web debut with the show, Chandrachur Singh shared, “The beauty of digital content is that there is a brave new form of storytelling and I am beyond exhilarated to make my debut with this show. The level of tension and intensity fuelled by several plot twists, and a mystery at its very core will keep the viewers guessing.”
