The first look of Prakash Raj from the Samantha-starrer Shaakuntalam has been unveiled this Monday evening. Prakash Raj, who is awaiting the release of his upcoming feature Rangamarthanda, will be playing the role of a boatman named Sarangi in the film.

Taking to social media to share the first look of the actor, the makers write, "Aiding Shaakuntala on her most important voyage is this humble boatman. He croons as he rows with his crew, describing the journey of life as he navigates through the waters..In this very special role is the versatile performer Prakash Raj garu as Sarangi."

Written and directed by Gunasekhar, Shaakuntalam is a cinematic adaptation of Kalidasa's play Abhignyana Shakuntalam. The film stars Samantha in the titular role of Shakuntala, with Malayalam actor Dev Mohan playing the role of prince Dushyanta. The film also stars Mohan Babu, Ananya Nagalla, Gautami and Aditi Balan in supporting roles. 

The film's music is composed by Mani Sharma, with Sekhar V Joseph and Prawin Pudi serving as the film's cinematographer and editor respectively. Shaakuntalam is slated for a April 14 release.
