The trailer for Waltair Veerayya, headlined by Chiranjeevi, was unveiled on Saturday. The film also stars Ravi Teja and Shruti Haasan in pivotal roles.

The trailer presents Chiranjeevi in his true blue massy avatar, reminiscent of Gang Leader and Muta Mestri, after appearing in a slew of remakes. He will be facing off Ravi Teja, who is playing a police officer in the action entertainer. With frames by Arthur Wilson drenched in sepia tones and hues of midnight blue, Waltair Veerayya looks like a high-octane action entertainer with all the mass elements one expects from a star outing. The entry of Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja are grandly displayed, while Shruti Haasan, Bobby Simha, Sathyaraj, John Vijay and Catherine Tresa appear briefly.

The trailer reveals little about the plot, except that the story happens in Malaysia and Andhra Pradesh. Chiranjeevi aka Veerayya is introduced as an “international criminal” and a “popular khaidi”. Shots of cigarettes being lit, men flying in slow motion after being kicked and heroes appearing in silhouettes out of rising dust are all presented to us, in quintessential Tollywood fashion. Chiru and Ravi Teja both get whistle-worthy one-liners packed in moments of fan service, with the stand-out meta moment being the one where actors exchange each other’s iconic lines towards the end of the trailer.

Waltair Veerayya is written by Kona Venkat and K Chakravarthy Reddy and directed by Bobby Kolli, with music composed by Devi Sri Prasad. The film is slated for a release on January 13.
