Karthi calls Japan a crime thriller with manhunt elements 

The film is due for release for Diwali

Actor Karthi, in his recent conversation with Variety, opened up about his upcoming 25th film Japan, which is scheduled to hit the theatres for Diwali. Calling it a crime thriller, Karthi said that it has elements of "manhunt".

"But apart from that, the writing and characters in the film are so well-rooted, and at the same time, it’s got a lot of flamboyance – it’s a very unique combination," he added.

Directed by Raju Murugan, Japan is bankrolled by Dream Warrior Pictures. Karthi said that the film while being "so grounded" at the same time "flamboyance and the cockiness" of his role made him interested in the Japan. He also mentioned, “I’ve liked his earlier two films ‘Cuckoo’ and ‘Joker’ and his understanding of local community, the culture here, it’s so beautiful.”

Karthi also opened about his next film which will be directed by Nalan Kumarasamy. Revealing it to be a fantasy action entertainer, the 50% of shoot has been completed. He also has a film with Prem Kumar alongside Arvind Swami, which will be a coming of age drama.
