Director Kalyaan: It was a great experience to work with around 36 veteran actors in Ghosty

Filmmaker Kalyaan, known for helming comedy films like Gulaebaghavali and Jackpot, recently directed Ghosty, which hit the theatres on March 17.

The film starring Kajal Aggarwal in the lead role is a horror comedy. Speaking about the film, director Kalyaan says, "Usually, in horror films we see ghosts taking revenge or wanting to fulfil their unfulfilled desires. But in Ghosty, the ghosts have very different demands. That's the fun part of the film. They disturb Arthi, the cop played by Kajal Aggarwal, who is in pursuit of a dreaded criminal."

On roping Kajal, Kalyaan says that he liked her performance as a cop in the Vijay-starrer Jilla, and particularly her expression in the comic scenes.

Kalyaan also adds that he decided to blend horror and comedy to cater to children's audiences. Ghosty hosts around 36 veteran comedians and actors like the late Mayilsamy, KS Ravikumar, Urvashi, Madhan Bob, Sathyan, and Devadharshini, in supporting roles. About working with them, Kalyaan says, "It was a great experience working with the veteran actors. We planned efficiently to get all their dates."

Meanwhile, the film's music is composed by Sam CS, who is known for his work in thriller films. "Although it is a horror comedy film, there are a lot of emotions in Ghosty. So when I pitched it to Sam he was excited and said it was one of the most challenging projects," he adds.

Since it's a horror comedy, Kalyaan said that they have worked on VFX for the film. He also says that since the film was shot during the Covid-19 time, the filming was difficult and hence they had to ensure precise continuity.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Kalyaan has completed shooting for a couple of films. One of the films features Santhanam in the lead role and it is set in the 80s. And his other directorial features Prabhudheva and Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead roles.
