Kishen Das and Smruthi Venkat to star in Arvindh Srinivasan's Tharunam

Filmmaker Arvindh Srinivasan, who previously helmed the crime thriller Deja Vu, will be next directing a romantic film titled Tharunam. The upcoming film stars Mudhal Nee Mudivum Nee-fame Kishen Das and Smruthi Venkat in the lead roles.

Backed by Pugazh's Zhen Studios and ARKA Entertainments, the film will go on floors next Monday. Speaking to CE, Arvindh says, "Tharunam, as the title suggests, it is all about the moments. The film shows how these two characters meet for the first time and fall in love. It is also about how they overcome a series of problems."

Noting that he wrote the film's script three months ago, Arvindh says that he pitched the idea to Pugazh, his old friend, with whom he had been discussing working on a film together since 2013. "The moments and the emotions of contemporary love shown in this film will be relatable to everyone. So we decided to have a multi-lingual release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada," he adds.

Arvidh also shares that having invested three years in Deja Vu, after its release, he got opportunities to remake it and do another crime thriller. However, he consciously decided to try out a new genre to prove his versatility. "With Tharunam, my challenge was to design an innovative treatment that is completely different from what we have seen in romantic films from the past. That apart, the script demanded comparatively fresh faces who would have not done roles like these before. Hence I opted for Kishen and Smruthi, who will have the opportunity to break out of her comfort zone and try something new in Tharunam," Arvindh says, adding that Darbuka Siva's soundscape for the film will usher in creating a refreshing experience.

The film's technical crew includes DOP Raja Bhattacharjee, editor Arul E Siddharth, and art director Varnaalaya Jagadeesan.
