On Monday, JioCinema dropped the trailer of the upcoming Tamil film Appatha starring Urvashi in the lead role. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film will stream on JioCinema from July 29 onwards. Appatha marks Urvashi's 700th film.

Appatha stars Urvashi as Kannamma, who is also belovedly known as Appatha. The trailer showcases Appatha, who is beloved in a rural village, and popular for her mango pickles, moving to Chennai to be with her son. However, upon arrival, she realises that she was only asked to come to take care of her son's pet dog while the family goes on vacation. While the theme looks fresh, we must wait and see if the film falls into the cliche of distant relationships between older parents and their busy city-dwelling offspring.

Here is the trailer

Written by Hardik Gajjar with a screenplay by Priyadarshan and Deepthi Govindarajan, Appatha is Presented by Wide Angle Creations Production and bankrolled by  Jyoti Deshpande, Suresh Balaje and George Pius.

It is to be noted that, Appatha was screened at Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Film Festival as the opening film. The festival is organised by the Government of India, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, through the National Film Development Corporation in association with the SCO Council of the Heads of States.
