Filmmaker Pa Ranjith lauded Mari Selvaraj's Maamannan earlier today and asked Udhayanidhi Stalin, the hero of the film and one of the leaders of DMK to ensure social justice within the party, reflecting the theme of the film.

Thanking Ranjith for his wishes, Udhayanidhi has put out a tweet, which also addresses the concerns expressed by the filmmaker. Thanks to director, brother Pa Ranjith for appreciating our film "Mamannan''. Caste oppression and inequality should be eradicated not only within the organization but also within any party," he wrote.

"Whenever DMK became the ruling party we have enforced "social justice"' in the form of laws and programs. We are still fighting for it and our president is also continuing this pursuit in the path of Anna and Kalaignar. From Parashakti to Mamannan, DMK has always stood by social justice films."

He went on to call social justice a hundred-year-long struggle. "It is a century-long struggle for equality against a thousand-year-old sanatana. An unfinished struggle too. We all know that a single film cannot bring about a revolution in society. Following the foot steps of Periyar and Ambedkar, this change can be made by constantly interacting with people along the way. We will all travel together towards that. Thanks to brother Ranjith who now has faith in the party and me in this journey."

Maamannan starring Vadivelu, Keerthy Suresh and Fahadh Faasil in the lead, has music by AR Rahman and cinematography by Theni Eswar.
