Mathagam – Disney+ Hotstar- August 18
The series features Atharvaa and Manikandan in the lead roles, with Prasath Murugesan of Kidaari and Queen fame, serving as the director. Mathagam is crime thriller drama produced by Screen Scene Media Entertainment and will chronicle a showdown between law enforcement and a small group of notorious criminals. It also stars Nikhila Vimal, Gautham Menon, Dhivyadarshini, among others. has music by Darbuka Siva, cinematography by Edwin Sakay and editing by Praveen Antony.
Guns and Gulaabs – Netflix – August 18
Guns and Gulaabs is a web series coming from director duo Raj and DK. It stars Dulquer Salmaan, Rajkumar Rao, Gulshan Devaiah and Adarsh Gourav in significant roles. Inspired by the misfits of the world, Guns and Gulaabs is set in the 90s. It is billed as a story that depicts love and innocence though it is set in a world of crime, as per the official description of the series.
AP Dhillon: First of a Kind- Prime Video- August 18
The docu-series will focus on AP Dhillon, the Punjabi artiste who is known for songs like Brown Munde, Summer High. It will be of four parts and traces Dhillon’s journey from his village Gurdaspur to international stage. The series is backed by PASSION Pictures in association with Wild Sheep Content and Run-Up Records. It is helmed by Jay Ahmed. The series will unravel Dhillon’s journey of becoming a self-made superstar and a global music icon.
Dept Vs Amber- Netflix- August 16
After 14 months since the defamation case involving Amber Heard and her former husband Johnny Depp ended, the docu-series will document the case. The case resulted in Johnny getting the favourable verdict. The jurors had found out that Heard defamed Depp when she wrote a 2018 Washington Post opinion piece claiming that she was subjected to domestic violence by Depp. The Pirates of the Caribbean star sued Heard in Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia for $50 million over the 2018 article which resulted in Heard countersuing Depp for $100 million, claiming Depp's attorney defamed her by calling her abuse allegations a hoax. It is directed by Emma Cooper and will consist of three parts.
Monkey King – Netflix- August 18
The upcoming animated film is based on the classic novel Journey to the West, which was written in the 1600s during the Ming Dynasty. The novel, by Wu Cheng’en, is a fantastical rendition of the real-life story of a seventh-century Buddhist monk Xuanzang, who came to India in search of sacred texts. Monkey King is based on the first part of Wu’s historical fiction about a monkey who learns the art of Tao and becomes a god. The cast of the animated feature comprises of Jimmy O Yang, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, Bowen Yang, Jo Koy, Ron Yuan, Stephanie Hsu, and BD Wong among others. It is directed by Anthony Stacchi.
