Mani Ratnam: Love Today's success was a reality check 

Director Mani Ratnam, who is promoting his upcoming mega-budget historical drama Ponniyin Selvan 2, has shared in our recent interview that the success of Pradeep Ranganathan's Love Today was a 'reality check'. 

When asked if larger-than-life films are the only way to bring the audience back to the big screens, he says, "I wouldn't say that the theatre films only need to be larger-than-life. I would rather insist that these kinds of films are best suited for the theatres, not the other way around. The success of Love Today was a major reality check." He added that the audiences are ready to support any type of film that emotionally engages them. 

Ponniyin Selvan stars an ensemble cast including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R Parthiban.  The film has music by AR Rahman and cinematography by Ravi Varman.
